Tour Description

The tour starts at Riva del Garda, the highest point of Lake Garda, then continues towards the area that is part of the Veneto region, in the province of Verona. Malcesine is the first stop before going up to Mount Baldo, via cable car, to a height of 2218 metres a.s.l.. Here the view is truly unique and the lake can be admired in its entirety. And, there is more... from the opposite side you can see the other part of the province, the areas we are going to visit immediately after the descent from the mountain.
At Torri del Benaco we will find signs leading us to the hills, towards the Valpolicella area which is famous for the wine cultivated there...Amarone. Curves, hairpin bends, historical villages, castles, villas, areas of extraction of Verona red marble, the Lessinia stone, the production of classic style furniture and wrought iron, valleys and vineyards too. Recioto, Soave, Custoza, Lugana, Bardolino of the Garda inland area, Lessini Durello, Arcole in the lowlands and Valdadige in the land of the forts are the wines produced in this province. These sensational wines are often served with the typical local products found on the laden tables of Verona, such as Vialone Nano Veronese PGI rice, used for delicious risottos with PDO red radicchio, cured meats like soppressa (a type of salami), the cheese and dairy products of Lessinia, the fish of Lake Garda and the rivers, the extra virgin olive oil, vegetables, cherries and peaches whose trees during blossoming offer spectacular landscapes, PDO chestnuts and marroni on the highlands, apples and pears, melons and watermelons in the plains. Honey from the Lessinia area and the hills overlooking Lake Garda, truffles and Valeggio tortellini. Not to forget the plentiful desserts like the famous pandoro, the star-shaped nadalin and the bovolone. We will spend the first night at the Garda thermal park, a 13-hectare natural spa surrounded by rare plants and century old trees.
On the second day we will visit the Asiago plateau, in the province of Vicenza. After taking the road to the Soave area and driving along the natural park of Lessinia we will enter the territory of Vicenza, mostly of Gothic origin. Antonio Fogazzaro, Jacopo da Ponte, Andrea Palladio are the protagonists of Vicenza and many are the places and works worth visiting that are associated with them. But the centrepiece, where we can make the most of our cars’ horsepower and experience a true adrenaline rush, are the roads that go through the frontline, trenches and tunnels of the GREAT WAR from the Asiago plateau to Mount Grappa. The industry sectors where Vicenza can boast significant performance and leadership both nationally and globally are tanning, jewellery, textile clothing, ceramics, wood furnishing and agrifood. The foodie visitor can taste several typical dishes, from the Vicentine style cod, to capons a la canevera, kid on the spit, mutton with rice and peas, to the many rice dishes including risotto with Lumignano peas, asparagus from Bassano, sopressa of Valli del Pasubio and Recoaro duly accompanied by a warm slice of Brustolà polenta, Valdastico trout, the toresani from Breganze accompanied by polenta onta, bigoli with duck from Thiene, turkeys (paete) with Montebello pomegranate (malgaragno) each of which can be matched with a certain period of the year and a specific wine from the areas of the Berici Hills, Gambellara and Breganze. The most famous ones are: Gambellara, Garganego, Vespaiolo and Breganze. The peaceful plateau of the seven municipalities (Asiago) will host the second day of our tour.
The third day is dedicated to the northern part of the province of Treviso. From wonderful Asiago, leaving behind the descent of Enego, we will go up to the Grappa area, a frontline during the First World War. The Forts of Primulano will appear after the first bends. Driving forward, between sharp bends and in the midst of fir and beech trees, one can start admiring breath-taking views of the Venetian plain. Cima Grappa (1770 metres a.s.l.) is the first stop where we will visit the Military Memorial Monument. The silence, the atmosphere keep alive the memory of the victims. The landscape is filled with old memories of the First World War; trenches, paths, tunnels, small blockhouses used for defense. The Piave river, sacred to the homeland, is clearly visible and its sinuous shape leads our gaze to the Venice lagoon. The descent from this mountain will take us to Possagno, birthplace, temple and museum of the famous sculptor and painter Antonio Canova, the artist who revives the ancient Greek sculptures and lived between the 18th and 19th century. The area of the Prosecco Road and Conegliano- Valdobbiadene wines will be our destination of the day. Prosecco, a DOC white wine, is the most famous wine of the area and renowned all over the world with sales exceeding, in recent years, those of the most well-known French wines. Of equal importance are, nonetheless Cartizze, Torchiato di Fregona, Refrontolo passito, Montello and Colli Asolani, Verduzzo, Merlot and Raboso del Piave. On tables laden with delicious local dishes: risotto with bruscandoli, peverata sauce, Treviso radicchio, Bassano-style asparagus, pasta and beans, sopa coada, spit roasts and for dessert tiramisu, prepared with expertise, skill and tradition.
Follina, a small town located at the foot of the Belluno Prealps and in the heart of the vineyard area, will host us for two nights. The fourth day will be exclusively devoted to PROSECCO, the surrounding hills with small excursions in the Belluno area; traditions and places of the high Treviso province that cannot be just described ... they are to be discovered !!! The Dolomites will be the highlight of the last day. Mountain passes, tunnels, bends and counterbends… landscapes… hikes to alpine huts. Dolomites are recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site: they are the most beautiful mountains in the world! An explosion of colour and vitality: the emerald green of the pastures and the intense green of fir woods, the blue of the clear sky and the rainbow of blooms, the intense red that illuminates peaks at sunset, unique and extraordinary phenomenon due to the unique composition of the Dolomite rocks. A scenario that only these mountains can offer, and one that awakens our desire to live in the open air. Trekking, mountaineering, horseback riding, mountain biking, walking in nature, windsurfing, rafting, paragliding; the Three Peaks of Lavaredo, Marmolada, Tofane, Pelmo, Civetta, Cinque Torri.
But the Dolomites are also places rich in culture, art and traditions. The stylish and fashionable Cortina d’Ampezzo; the Zoldo Valley, studded with precious little churches and stately homes; Cadore, land of history and art with the beautiful Pieve di Cadore, birthplace of the great painter Titian; the “green Comelico”, a territory divided into two very seductive areas: the Val Comelico, a Ladin area, and Sappada, a German-speaking “island” within Italy. A five-day tour to see, discover, stimulate the desire to return to Veneto and get to know it better.
